My focus as a photographer revolves around the realms of humanitarian issues and cultural anthropology, both of which captivate my interest and drive my work. In particular, I am deeply intrigued by the intricate dynamics of human migration, whether driven by choice or compulsion, leading individuals towards fortune, safety, a nomadic lifestyle, or the struggle for survival as refugees.

Through my lens, I strive to capture the nuances that often go unnoticed, revealing the unfamiliar within the familiar, the extraordinary within the ordinary, and the normalcy within the extraordinary. From distant lands to nearby locales, I am enamored by the peculiarities nestled within the everyday, the delightful imperfections that shape our existence and way of life. The narratives etched in people’s eyes and the rich histories concealed beneath the creases on their faces inspire me deeply.

My true passion flourishes while traversing the globe, immersing myself in diverse cultures, and delving into the distinctive local cuisines and belief systems that enrich our world. Above all, I am enthralled by the power of storytelling, unearthing the myriad facets of human experiences, be they joyous or sorrowful, resplendent or unsightly. My journeys span from remote landscapes and encounters with indigenous tribes to the very heart of humanitarian crises.

In 2019, I proudly published a book titled “Bakkie Pleuâh,” a captivating photographic exploration of traditional coffee houses, an emblematic cultural phenomenon found within the tapestry of my hometown, The Hague.

Through my work, I aspire to shed light on the intricacies of our shared human experience, celebrating the diversity that defines our world and giving voice to the stories that deserve to be heard.
